Energy and Security: The Twin Pillars for Nearshoring Success
Cross-border Investment in Nearshoring
The trend of nearshoring has been widely celebrated as a transformative opportunity for Mexico and North America’s broader economy. Yet, as the world watches, one truth remains undeniable: nearshoring cannot succeed without addressing two fundamental pillars—energy and security. As I’ve learned through my years of cross-border work and most recently in conversations with key figures in the new Sheinbaum administration, these issues must be solved at the border first.

Power Move
Harnessing the Power of the Mexican-American Community for Political Influence
Power of the Mexican-American Vote
As we move closer to election day, it’s important to recognize the extraordinary power of the Mexican-American community. With nearly 40 million people of Mexican descent living in the United States, we have an opportunity to shape the future of this country like never before. Our contributions to the economy, culture, and society are undeniable, but now is the time to translate that power into political influence.
A recent report by the Migration Policy Institute highlights that Mexican immigrants and their descendants are not just growing in number; they are increasingly becoming a significant force in the U.S. electorate. We have the numbers and the potential to influence critical elections at both local and national levels. But that influence depends on one crucial factor: our vote.
The Stakes Have Never Been Higher
At a time when issues like immigration reform, healthcare access, and economic recovery are at the forefront, the choice of leadership will determine the direction our country takes. It’s clear that the Harris-Walz ticket offers a future where our community's values and needs are heard and addressed.
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have made it clear that they prioritize policies that strengthen family budgets, improve access to education, and open doors for first-time homeownership—all issues that deeply impact the Mexican-American community. They also support comprehensive immigration reform that would create a fairer and more humane system, ensuring that families stay together and have opportunities to thrive in the U.S.
Our Community, Our Voice, Our Future
We have seen what happens when we remain on the sidelines—policies are passed without our input, and decisions are made that don't reflect the needs of our families or our communities. Now, more than ever, we must use our collective strength to influence the outcome of this election.
By coming together, we can ensure that the policies of the next administration reflect our values and advance the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve. Voting for Harris-Walz isn’t just a political decision; it’s a statement of confidence in a future that works for all of us, one that respects our contributions and prioritizes the well-being of our community.
Let’s ensure that our voice is heard loud and clear. The power of the Mexican-American community is undeniable—let’s use it to shape the future we want.
The Border Buzz
Border Visits: Political Points or Real Solutions?
Border Theatre
In the lead-up to elections, the U.S.-Mexico border becomes a political stage, with politicians from both parties making appearances to score points with their respective bases. For Republicans, these visits often serve as an opportunity to highlight immigration and border security concerns, using tough rhetoric to stir up fears about migrants. Meanwhile, Democrats have generally focused on more comprehensive solutions, advocating for policies that address the root causes of migration and proposing reforms that balance security with humanity.
However, despite the political theater, real solutions remain elusive. Former President Trump, while loudly proclaiming the need for a stronger border, actually killed a bipartisan effort that would have invested the necessary resources to resolve the core issues. This legislation sought to address both security concerns and the humanitarian crisis at the border, allocating funds for better infrastructure, more personnel, and crucial technology. It was a serious attempt to fix what both parties agree is a broken system, but Trump’s veto effectively derailed progress.
In contrast, Democratic leaders have continued to advocate for policies that focus on cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico, recognizing that migration is a complex issue that requires more than just fences and detention centers. Investment in border communities, support for economic development in Mexico and Central America, and reforms that create legal pathways for migrants are part of the broader strategy Democrats have championed. These policies aim to address the root causes of migration, not just the symptoms that surface at the border.
As election season heats up, it’s essential for voters to distinguish between political posturing and genuine efforts to solve the border crisis. Border visits may grab headlines, but we must demand real solutions that address both security and human dignity. The Mexican-American community, particularly those living in border states like Arizona, has a vital role to play in pushing for comprehensive reforms that balance safety, economic opportunity, and compassion.
Keep these distinctions in mind when you receive your ballot. Don’t reward political theatre—vote for Democrats who are committed to real, lasting solutions, like Vice President Kamala Harris.
