Tariff Impact
As 2025 begins, the U.S. is doubling down on border security with a multifaceted approach that integrates advanced technology, bipartisan policy initiatives, and international cooperation. Rising Wages, Rising Opportunity: Mexico’s Economic Shift in 2025
Mexico’s Wage Increase: Productivity
Mexico’s recent 20% minimum wage increase, raising daily pay to 241 pesos (around $13.50 USD), is more than a pay adjustment—it’s a transformative move with implications for trade, investment, and economic growth. This boost strengthens Mexico’s middle class, encourages domestic spending, and solidifies its position as a global nearshoring hub.
For U.S. businesses, the higher wages may initially increase costs, but they also promise long-term gains: enhanced worker productivity, lower turnover, and a growing consumer base. The wage hike aligns with Mexico’s vision of competing on quality and stability, creating a sustainable foundation for economic growth.
As 2025 unfolds, this policy signals Mexico’s readiness to embrace its growing role in global trade, offering new opportunities for U.S.-Mexico collaboration and regional prosperity.

Three Kings and New Beginnings: When Mexico Reopens for Business
Three Kings’ Day
While much of the world rings in the new year and dives back into business, Mexico takes a uniquely extended approach to the holiday season. For millions of Mexicans, the festive spirit doesn’t end on January 1—it continues until January 6, DĂa de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings’ Day), a cherished tradition rooted in faith, family, and community.
The Story of the Three Kings
DĂa de los Reyes commemorates the journey of the Magi—Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar—who followed the star to bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the newborn Jesus. In Mexico, this day is celebrated with parades, gifts for children, and the sharing of Rosca de Reyes, a sweet bread baked with a hidden figurine of baby Jesus. Finding the figurine signifies a special honor: hosting a celebration for DĂa de la Candelaria on February 2.
A Nation Pauses to Celebrate
For many businesses, the days between New Year’s and Three Kings’ Day are a quiet time. Families focus on gatherings and traditions, and the country largely remains in a festive mode. It’s only after January 6 that Mexico fully returns to its bustling pace of work and commerce. This cultural rhythm highlights the importance of family and community in Mexican society, offering a slower, reflective start to the year.
What This Means for Cross-Border Business
For those engaged in U.S.-Mexico trade, understanding this extended holiday period is crucial. While the U.S. often rushes back to full operational speed, Mexico’s timeline is a reminder to embrace patience and cultural awareness. By respecting these traditions, businesses can strengthen partnerships and foster goodwill across borders.
As January 6 arrives, Mexico is poised to reawaken, bringing its vibrant energy back to commerce and collaboration. Until today, the country celebrates, connecting its past to its present with traditions that remind us of the value of faith, family, and community.
